How often do I need to schedule routine teeth cleanings and exams?
Patients should attend routine dental appointments at least twice per year, regardless of how healthy their teeth and gums are. This is because routine dental exams are an opportunity for our team to identify any dental issues or potential issues and treat them while they are still small or create a plan to prevent a problem from arising. For example, if we notice early signs of gingivitis, we can let you know that enhancing your at-home oral care routine is a top priority to prevent periodontal disease from developing, which is not completely reversible.
What happens during a routine teeth cleaning?
Your hygienist will begin by gently scraping away plaque that has built up in hard-to-brush areas, like around the gum line and in between the teeth. Then, a special gritty toothpaste and electric toothbrush are used to scrub the teeth and clean them thoroughly. Hygienists also expertly floss teeth to ensure that they’re removing as much plaque as possible. They may ask you if there is anything in particular that you are concerned about, and they will let you know if they see any potential problems and pass all of this information along to Dr. Duncan.
Are routine dental cleanings and exams covered by insurance?
Most dental insurance plans either completely cover the cost of routine dental visits or cover the majority of the cost. For uninsured patients, our office also offers an in-house savings plan, which covers biannual dental cleanings, exams, and X-rays. Patients who are new to our office and do not have insurance may want to take advantage of our new patient special, which also includes a cleaning, exam, and X-rays. If you have any financial questions or concerns for our team, please feel free to contact our office or visit our financial page, and we’ll be happy to help.
